Upstairs Floors
This photo shows the floor of the south upstairs bedroom. All the floors of the upstairs portion of the house are original. Workmen cleaned them thoroughly, and then they were painted antelope brown. We think that the south bedroom of the house was used by Samuel`s and Catherine`s eight daughters. The younger children of both sexes probably slept in the large attic adjoining the south bedroom. Tress May Francis has preserved the tradition that Catherine May was very proud of her daughters, and that when the eight of them would set out for church on Sunday, `dressed in their finery,` they were a sight to behold.
