Interior Brick Walls
This photo shows the condition of the interior brick walls of the house after they were stripped of their plaster. As you can see, their mortar was dry and crumbling, and in some places it was completely gone. Something had to be done to firm up the walls, so Kauble decided to parge them, despite the fact that no money had been budgeted for this purpose. It is a testimony to Kauble`s dedication that he decided to do this work. Parging is a process whereby cement is applied to a surface by a workman using a trowel. The work is difficult and requires considerable skill.
