This photo shows Jack May`s Law Office
on Main Street in Tazewell, Virginia. It was located directly
across the street from the Tazewell County Courthouse. Professor
Perry obtained this photo from the Tazewell County Historical
Society. During the years following the Civil War, Jack May was
one of Tazewell`s most prominent citizens. He served a term as
mayor of the town and helped organize one of its first banks.
His law practice was a very successful one. On several occasions, Tazewell County honored him for his service during the war, and in particular, the bravery he exhibited during Toland`s July 1863 Raid on Wytheville. When he died in 1903, a large crowd attended his funeral. |
