A new stone has been placed on the grave of William James May,
son of Thomas & Dorcas Patton May.

Eleven descendants of this branch of the May family contributed to the project.,
which was completed on July 1, 2009.

Another project will be to have the original stone cleaned.

William James May died on July 2, 1883 and was buried in the May Cemetery near his home, built by his uncle, Samuel May, in 1817. His father, Thomas May, bought the house from Samuel in 1842. He and his wife lived in the house after their marriage in 1851. His first wife, Eliza Jane Harman who died in 1848, was the first person buried in the cemetery. Her only daughter, Adaline Lavolet May, was buried next to her in 1918.
