May The eight family branches of descendants of John & Sarah Phillips May are: John May, Jr. [1781-1849] Samuel May [1783-1851 Thomas May [1787-1867] Elizabeth (Betsey) May [1790-1884] Daniel May [1791-aft. 1839] Mary (Polly) May [abt. 1797-abt. 1868] Reuben May [1800-1840] Tlepolard (Phillip Pollard) May [1805-1839] None of the family reunions in Kentucky, dating back over eighty years, have ever been attended by a descendant of John May, Jr. who moved his family to Illinois in 1830. A married son and a married daughter remained in Kentucky when he left. I'm in touch with a few members of this branch of the family. At the 2002 reunion three descendants of Elizabeth were in attendance. That was the first time anyone of that branch was known to have attended a reunion in Kentucky. A book entitled "We, The Little People" about the descendants of Elizabeth (Betsey) May, wife of James W. Little, was compiled in 1987. We had the pleasure of hearing from the author, Juanelle (Sandy) Smith Sewell, an after-dinner speaker on Saturday night. Due to her work, we now have information on this branch of the family and are in contact with a number of Betsey's descendants - many of whom live in the South, from Florida to Texas. Contacts at the 2002 and 2004 reunions with descendants of Mary May Hamilton, who lived in Morgan County, KY throughout her married life, have opened up new sources of information on this branch of our family. Soon after the 2002 reunion Hamilton-Cantrell Genealogy, a large book on this branch that was compiled in 1993 by Helen Cantrell Hunt of Ashland, KY - was located and has added extensive data to our records of the family. Descendants of the Hamilton family have reunions in Eastern Kentucky and some of them have attended the recent May reunions. There are no known descendants of Daniel or Tlepolard. Our last records of Daniel are his marriage in 1824 and being listed as a brother of Tlepolard in 1839. Tlepolard is not known to have ever married and he died at the age of 34.
