Minutes of the Board of Trustees
August 28, 2001
Those present: Sam Hatcher, Marshall
Davidson, Jimmy Reed, Patricia A. Johnson, Robert Perry, Sabra
Jacobs, Don R. Johnson, Garnett Fairchild, Jim Spencer, and Delmas
Saunders.
The Friends of the Samuel May House met for their regular monthly
meeting on Tuesday, August 28, 2001. Mr. Hatcher called the meeting
to order at 7:00 PM. Each member had been either emailed or snail
mailed a copy of the Minutes of July 24th. Also, extra copies
were on hand for those present. Don R. Johnson made a motion
to accept the Minutes as presented; seconded by Jimmy Reed. Motion
carried.
In the absence of David Hereford, Mr. Hatcher presented the Treasurer's
report. As of August 18th, the general fund balance was $7,402.97
with no significant expenditures. The Archive Fund balance was
$1,771.53 with no expenditures since last meeting. Don R. Johnson
made a motion to accept the report as presented; seconded by
Jim Spencer. Motion carried.
Old Business:
Mr. Hatcher reported that (as those present could see) the parking
lot and walkways had been finished. The porch had also been worked
on and completed. During the living history held the previous
week, a down-pour of rain had shown there to be a leak between
the house and the floor of the porch. Mr. Hatcher stated he had
talked with the contractor and that the leak would be sealed
by some means. Work still to be done on the parking lot included
- stops to be put in place, lines drawn, and the lighting fixtures
put in place.
Mr. Hatcher stated that the easement still had not been heard
from and was in Frankfort somewhere. Mr. Jimmy Reed stated that
Mayor Fannin had ordered a twenty-four (24) foot flag- pole that
morning to be placed on the May House property. Dr. Perry stated
that he felt the pole should probably be placed near our historical
marker, in the front of the House. The flags to be flown will
be the Kentucky First National and the 36 Star Federal Flag.
New Business:
Mr. Davidson informed the group that he had been contacting
various individuals regarding the dedication ceremony for the
Ivy Mountain Monument.
Dr. Perry informed the group that we had sold out of Jack May's
War and Scalf's History of Kentucky during the living history
weekend. Jim Spencer made a motion that we purchase ten (10)
of each. Don Johnson seconded. Motion carried. Dr. Perry stated
that he would order the books.
Mr. Hatcher, of the Computer Committee, gave a detailed description
of what would be needed. After a lengthy discussion, Delmas Saunders
made a motion to purchase the "system and a place to store
it" recommended by the Committee. When asked Delmas stated
that there were too many parts or components needed to specify
therefore the use of the word "system". Seconded by
Don Johnson. Motion carried.
There being no further business, Don Johnson made a motion to
adjourn; seconded by Patricia Johnson. Motion carried.
