Minutes of the Board of Trustees

March 25, 2003

Those present: Don R. Johnson, Patricia A. Johnson, Jim Spencer, Sam D. Hatcher, John Rosenberg, and Sabra Jacobs.

Following the Annual Membership Meeting, the regular monthly meeting of the Friends of the May House began. Mr. Hatcher stated that the Minutes of the February 25th meeting had been emailed and snail mailed to all members of the Board. He asked if anyone had any deletions or additions. There being none the Minutes will stand approved as presented.

In the absence of David Hereford, Mr. Hatcher gave the Treasurer's report. Our General Fund balance is now $4,311.84, with our expenditures being for the 35 star flag; cleaning of the house, the placing of two ads in the Kentucky Explorer listing the books we have for sale. We also received a royalty check in the amount of $184.94 from the sale of Scalf's book "The Last Frontier". He asked if there were any question. There being none, the Treasurer's report will stand approved as presented.

The group then discussed a date for the Photo Fair. Mr. Hatcher suggested either May 17th or 24th. With the 24th being Memorial Day weekend, the Photo Fair will be held on the 17th.

The idea of a sign to put in front of the May House letting the general public know that it was there and to call for an appointment to tour was discussed. Don Johnson stated that he had checked into having one made a few years ago and then the group had decided not to do it. John Rosenberg asked that the group consider doing it so the people passing would know that the house was there and would welcome visitors. Don agreed to have a "mock up" for the next meeting for the group to look at and discuss.

Mr. Rosenberg also stated he thought it would be a good idea to have the cards that we have on file for volunteers to lead tour groups through the house put on our website. He felt that way people would get an idea of what was there and would be more interested in visiting. Mr. Hatcher stated that he would see what he could do about getting these on the website.

The group was informed that the May House now has Internet conveniences thanks to the hard work of Mr. Hatcher, who was able to get this done for us.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted by:
Patricia A. Johnson, Secretary
