1 Elizabeth
(Betsey) May b: 20 Oct 1811
Prestonsburg, KY d: 1891 Missouri, buried in Hebron Cemetery in
Platte Twp, Buchanan Co, MO Age at death: 80 est. Family genealogists generally spell his name "Ephriam" or "Ephram," but it most likely derives from the Tribe of Ephraim in the Old Testament. Ephriam is listed in the 1830 U.S. Census for Floyd Co., KY as head of a household, between 20 and 30 years old, with one female - certainly she must be his bride Elizabeth - between 15 and 20 years old. He is not listed in the 1840 census of Floyd County, but that year an E. Hill is in the census for Richmond, Ray County, MO. In 1849 he is listed as living in Green Township in Platte Co., MO with one poll and $95 of personal property. In 1852 Ephriam was a Trustee of newly incorporated New Market, MO, according to "Annals of Platte Co., MO" by Paxton in 1897.
A deed is recorded [Book C, page 301] in Floyd Co. from Ephriam E. Hill to Samuel May for 74 acres on Abbott Creek. It is dated 30 Mar 1832. We know from County Court records that he was still living in Floyd County in October 1836, when he was appointed as a commissioner for unappropriated lands in the county. We have no photos of either Ephriam or Elizabeth.
