This region of the Nahe Valley was the home of the Meÿ family beginning as early as 1665, when Johannes Meÿ married Margaretha Lauers of Niedermoschel at the Reformed Church in the village of Alsenz. The Alsenz River flows north through Alsenz and continues to the Nahe, which it meets a few miles below Niederhausen an der Nahe.
