On February 28, 1883, about two years after the death of Emma - his wife for over 45 years - Reuben married Phoebe A. Aiken. Phoebe died later that same year on October 6th.

On April 6, 1884, Reuben married Caroline S. Bennett, who remained his wife until his death in 1902 at the age of 87. Caroline died seven years later.
