This photo shows the front facade of the May House as it looked during the Summer of 1997. The house was restored during the Winter of 1996-97 by the City of Prestonsburg, using a $400,000 ISTEA grant from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The Kentucky Heritage Council also played a significant role in the awarding of the grant. In the Spring of 1995, the property was donated to the City of Prestonsburg by E. B. May, Jr. and W. H. May of Prestonsburg. Plans are underway to transform the house into a living history museum. When the facility is up and running, it will be managed by the Friends of the Samuel May House, Inc., a non-profit corporation located in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. |
