Second Samuel May and Family
Here is the family of Samuel May`s nephew, Samuel May (1820-1904), the son of Thomas May and Dorcas Patton May. In 1842, when Thomas May paid off the mortgage and acquired the May Farm, he gave the north half of the farm to his son Samuel. Samuel`s farmhouse was located several furlongs west of the May House, on the east bank of the Big Sandy opposite the mouth of Abbott Creek. It was razed in 1936 to make way for a house now owned by Mrs. Marvin Music, Sr. of Prestonsburg. Samuel`s son Solomon served with the 10th Kentucky Cavalry under his cousin, Col. Jack May. In June, 1864, Solomon rode with John Hunt Morgan on his last raid into Kentucky. He was killed during the fight at Mount Sterling on June 8th, 1864.
