| This is an old tintype of Catherine Evans May, daughter of Thomas Evans and wife of Samuel May, the builder of the Samuel May House. A native of Morgantown, Virginia, she came to Prestonsburg sometime around 1806 and married Samuel in 1808. Catherine was born on April 1, 1787. She died in Louisa sometime after 1867. After her husband`s death in 1851, she lived with her daughter, Mahala Jane Randall, in Maysville, Kentucky, where Mahala`s husband practiced medicine. After Dr. Randall`s death in 1867, Catherine and Mahala moved to Louisa, Kentucky, where Catherine died. At the present time, the location of her grave is unknown.
