Return to beginning Waggoners Hauling Forage for the British in 1759 Attached to the letter was this summary of the bushels of forage shipped from Lancaster. Note that "in Leonard May's Waggon" were 54 bushels [worth about £6.15 at ~2 shillings and 6 pence per bushel].   Edward Shippen, a prior mayor of Philadelphia, knew the three May brothers during the years they lived in Lancaster County. From 1753 until the time of the Revolution he served as Prothonotary of the Court of Common Pleas and Recorder of the Court of Quarterly Sessions. His name appears on deeds in the county, including those of the May brothers. His residence on the northwest corner of Orange and Lime Street in the Borough of Lancaster was located near the homes of Daniel and Frantz Peter May.
