Edward Shippen, a prior mayor of Philadelphia, knew the three May
brothers during the years they lived in Lancaster County. From 1753
until the time of the Revolution he served as Prothonotary of the
Court of Common Pleas and Recorder of the Court of Quarterly
Sessions. His name appears on deeds in the county, including those of
the May brothers. His residence on the northwest corner of Orange and
Lime Street in the Borough of Lancaster was located near the homes of
Daniel and Frantz Peter May. |
