Garland Hurt [1868-1964] was the only child of
Sarah May & Thurston Hurt

Following the death of his mother, only a few days after he was born, Garland was reared in the home of his grandfather, Thomas Patton May, on Johns Creek in Pike Co., KY. His father, Thurston D. Hurt, moved from Kentucky and settled in the West. Garland later owned a large farm where the original Lesley/Leslie family pioneers settled in 1789.

He was a great-great grandson of Floyd County pioneers:
William Robert Lesley [~1740 - 1802] and John May [1760 - 1813].
