When Tress May Francis completed her history of the May family in the mid 1950s, she only knew of the marriage of Mary (Polly) May to Peyton Justice and assumed that the Justice families of Pike County are their descendants. She had no knowledge of the dissolution of the Justice marriage in 1816 and Mary's subsequent marriage to John Hamilton. Verle Hamilton Parrish (1910-1998), who wrote several books on families of Eastern Kentucky, provided most of the information I have on Mary's marriages and descendants.  [1, 2]
